Standard Oil California Vintage Road Map

This colorful road map was issued by Standard Oil in 1940. Standard Oil of California was also known as SoCal. Standard was one of the many companies resulting from the breakup required by anti-trust laws directed at the monopoly by John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil. Today Standard is known as Chevron.

Standard typically used dynamic colors such as these on their road maps. The art deco gas station design with patriotic red, white and blue colors make for a very striking image for the front of the map. The back of the map shows a vintage auto being worked on up on a lift and features a Standard Oil RPM Motor Oil advertisement.
