Date Nite at Disneyland

In the ’50s and ’60s, Disneyland promoted Date Nite in a series of ads and flyers. In pure Jetsons style, one of these ads shows a man and his lady in a spinning teacup, a flying car and atop Dumbo.

Date Nite Ad from 1957

This 1957 ad tells us that Walt Disney’s “fabulous attractions are more fun than ever under the stars.”

Date Nite ran on Friday and Saturday nights (later advertised for Saturdays), and featured live music, dancing and “romantic rides”. Date Nite kicked off after the “Fantasy in the Sky” fireworks at 9 pm, and ran until midnight.

One could purchase Date Nite ticket books, which granted admission after 5 p.m. and restricted the number of attractions. I found some great images of a book at Vintage Disneyland Tickets.

The theme song for Date Nite was “Let’s Dance at Disneyland” and was performed by The Elliott Brothers Orchestra. iTunes carries a Date Nite At Disneyland album, which also includes “Shake, Rattle and Roll” and “Billy Boy Bop”.

There’s actually not much out there insofar as pictures and official “Date Nite” memories. We’d love to hear (and share) stories you might have.
