1950s Florida Gulf Oil Road Map

This Gulf road map dates to the early 1950s and, in addition to including a road map of Florida, has a road map of the island of Cuba. It’s hard for us to imagine today, anyone needing a road map of Cuba. But prior to Castro’s communist takeover in 1959, Cuba was experiencing an economic boom that attracted people from all over the world. Not only was Cuba attracting overseas immigration, but it was also known as a resort area that was visited by American tourists who had the money to spend on travel.

There are beautiful graphics on both the front and back of this map that illustrate leisure activities that are available in Florida. The artwork on the back shows a family visiting one of the many attractions beside the family car.
