Java Junkies Unite! Celebrating International Coffee Day
“I never laugh until I’ve had my coffee.” – Clark Cable
The Retro Planet offices are abuzz celebrating International Coffee Day!
We like our coffee just as much as you do and we’re more than happy to join millions of people worldwide toasting their favorite caffeinated beverage.
For the Retro Planet International Coffee Day celebration, we picked up a couple “Boxes O’ Joe” from Dunkin Donuts. Since nothing goes better with coffee than a sugary doughnut, we splurged and hit a local favorite, Klemm’s Bakery in Windham, New Hampshire.
And everyone knows that coffee tastes better in the right mug, whether a classic diner mug, novelty mug or superhero mug. For our coffee party, everyone grabbed their favorite Retro Planet mug and made their coffee just the way they like it.
Here’s a rundown of some of our employees’ favorites:
Rebecca’s Favorite Mug: London British Bistro Mug. She likes her coffee, “Black”.
Matthew’s Favorite Mug: Any limited edition Tiki Farm mug. “I like my coffee like I like my ice cream . . . free. Otherwise a little skim milk will do.”
Patrick’s Favorite Mug: TMNT Coffee Mug. He likes his coffee with “Skim and two sugars, or almond milk.”
Dave’s Favorite Mug: I don’t really have a favorite, they’re all unique. “I like my coffee with some hot chocolate in it!”
Dale’s Favorite Mug: Cupcakes Mug. She likes her coffee “Black, with a hint of hazelnut flavor”.
Mike’s Favorite Mug: Star Trek Ceramic Stein. He likes his coffee “Half-calf, skim milk only.”
Jen’s Favorite Mug: Octopus Porcelain Mug. She likes her coffee with “Skim milk, with PLENTY of sugar.”
Over a dozen countries recognize International Coffee Day, a day when coffee addicts support their local coffee shops, promote fair trade practices, and – oh yeah! – drink lots of coffee! Based on statistics from the National Coffee Association, the ranks of coffee drinkers keep growing. In 2013, a whopping 83% of adults surveyed said they drink coffee (up 5% from 2012), and 63% drink it every day.
It certainly seems as if everyone has a Keurig brewer at home as well as a favorite drink on the Starbucks menu (venti half-calf skinny extra hot vanilla latte, anyone?). Whether you like a plain ol’ cup’a Joe or a gourmet grind, you can probably get one within a mile of your house these days.
Do you have a favorite mug? How do you like your coffee? Feel free to share your International Coffee Day stories. And don’t forget to check with your local coffee shop for free or discounted coffee!
