Weekend DIY: Tin Can Lanterns

Retro Staff |  Comments

This simple and inexpensive project turns old or new tin cans into beautiful decor. Using little more than a hammer and nail, ice, and spray paint, you can create luminaries or buckets that are just as nice—if not better—than those you’ll find in home decor stores.

Grow Creative shows us how to easily make these decorative pieces.

Grow Creative shows us how to make these little lanterns, but you could opt to skip the “design punch” step and simply create canisters to store art supplies or kitchen utensils.

Since this project is so inexpensive, you could create dozens of these in different color schemes to display on the patio during different holidays. They’d also make unique gifts and favors—just fill each can with a handful of tea light candles and finish it off with a bow and note card.

I’ll be making some of these this fall and will be sure to share them with you. And if you opt to make some, I’d love to see the pictures of your finished pieces.
