The Original Mouseketeers
The Mickey Mouse Club television series kicked off on October 3, 1955. It was Walt Disney’s second production for TV, the first being Disneyland, an anthology series.
Prior to the TV series, there was a theater production called Mickey Mouse Club. It premiered on January 4, 1930 at the Fox Dome Theater in Ocean Park, California. By 1932, the “club” had about a million members.
The Mickey Mouse Club was a variety show that featured a newsreel and a serial, along with music and comedy. The cast featured 39 children, including Annette Funicello, Lonnie Burr and Bobby Burgess, along with three adults.
