Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo Eating Shakers

Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo Salt & Pepper Shakers

One of the most popular souvenirs picked up during travels in the ’50s and ’60s was the novelty salt and pepper shaker set. Whether custom designed for a particular destination or just adorable, such sets were small and functional. They could also serve as home decor, and it was not uncommon for people to display them on countertops, buffets or shelves.

Novelty salt and pepper shakers continue to be popular gifts and keepsakes, especially those based on retro themes and characters. Those who grew up watching shows and movies like The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, The Wizard of Oz, Mickey Mouse and Little Rascals will appreciate the poses and detail of these fun shakers.

Of course, this begs the question: Can you really have too many salt and pepper shakers? I say, “Impossible!”. I have several shaker sets. Some are truly vintage and are on display because they are just too fragile to use. Others are swapped out on the table and counter top with many more that adorn the bookcase.

Darla & Alfalfa

Popular characters include Winnie the Pooh, Mickey & Minnie, Fred & Wilma, Dino, Charlie Brown, Dorothy, the Jetsons family, and plenty of the Looney Tunes gang.
